BLOG: Arboretum Maple – Images by Art Wolfe
This past weekend I taught a workshop at the beautiful and chilly Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle. During the field shoot I suggested to some that they photograph this particular maple. Their shots shown during the critique so inspired me that I returned to the tree on Monday. Cold and damp, and hidden by spreading boughs from passersby, I spent a couple of hours working the angles.

Nicely done! Reminds me of a Japanese Maple I used to know. If you ever get to Kelowna, BC, be sure to stop by Kasugai Gardens. Steps away from City Hall, it’s an oasis of calm in the middle of the city. In the three years I lived in Kelowna I used to go there about once a week – although less than an acre in size I made over a thousand images there (and this from a former medium format film shooter, so I’m not known for a ‘spray and pray approach’).
